Cherryfield - Edith Elisabeth Davis, 91, a long time resident of Cherryfield, passed away unexpectedly at her home on March 13th 2018. She was born on April 11th 1926 in Machias Port to Michael` and LaVinnie “Lee” Sullivan. She graduated from Cherryfield Academy. She worked for J.C. Milliken Ins., General Dynamics, Tracy’s Motel, SAD 37 Superintendent of schools and summers at Jasper Wyman and Son C&D. She really enjoyed volunteering at the “Food Pantry” at the Maine Seacoast Mission in Cherryfield, where she enjoyed the comradery of many good friends. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son Kirby Davis, her nieces Paula Farren, and Janice Ames and husband Burley as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Elwood Davis, her parents, sister Kathleen Fickett and her husband Paul, brother James ”Jim” Sullivan and his wife Julia, niece Carol Crabtree, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Davis.
Edith was loved by all. She was always there for family and friends with a smile, an attentive ear and kind heart. She lead a quiet life, took care of her house and made sure her son had at least one good meal a day. She loved books and even though she was losing her sight she managed to read over 300 “mystery and suspense” books on her kindle. She also enjoyed listening to audio books. She was always ready to go for a ride no matter where. She loved her church, her cat “Zinnie”, the Boston Bruins and Red Sox and her good friend Jean Santiago who was always there to help and discuss daily life. When she passed she was watching sports and playing solitaire in her kitchen.
A verse recently read may hold true for those who knew her:
“Her voice will echo in memories you hold, Her smile will warm you through stories retold; Her love will touch you in spirit each day, Her life will be treasured in beautiful ways.”
She will be sorely missed by many, but is finally home with her Lord and Savior ‘Jesus Christ” beginning a new and wonderful adventure.
Services will be held at the Congregational Church in Cherryfield on May 12th 2018 at 11:00am. If anyone wishes, donations to the church in her memory are welcome.
