Peter R. Thompson Sr.
April 18, 1943 – September 8, 2018
Addison – Peter Ralph Thompson Sr., 75, passed away on September 8, 2018, at home with his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Portland, ME, on April 18, 1943, to Frank and Annie (Clark) Thompson.
Peter attended the S.S. Nash School in Addison. After school he drove a bus transporting sardine packers in Addison, and that is where he met his beloved wife Elizabeth (Torrey) Thompson. Early in his marriage, Peter was employed by Sea Ward Construction. He worked stern on many lobster boats until he bought a boat and started lobstering on his own. After spending the majority of his life working on the water, Peter retired from fishing and started his own business peddling seafood.
Peter enjoyed hunting, fishing, and belonged to the Addison Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary for 26 years. Peter adored his cat, Shadow, but his pride and joy was his grandsons Spencer and Nathan.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Annie, and a sister-in-law Rena Ames. He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Thompson, of Addison; two sons, Peter Thompson Jr. of Connecticut; Frank Thompson and wife, Heather, of Harrington; two grandsons, Spencer Thompson and fiancé, Kayla Toppin, of Harrington, Nathan Thompson, of Harrington; Brother, Earland Thompson of Addison; Mother-in-law, Virginia Simmons, of Sargentsville; Sister-in-law, Julia Comeau and husband, Herbert, of South Addison; Brother-in-law Lawrence Torrey Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Blue Hill; Brother-in-law Timmy Torrey and wife, Joan, of Hancock; along with many nieces and nephews.
Peter had countless friends and family whom he loved and shared many special memories with.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice, DaVita, Milbridge Medical Center, and Pleasant River Ambulance for all their care and support.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church on Beals Island. There will be a celebration of remembrance at the Addison Town Hall immediately following. Private graveside at a later date.
