Michael Maurice Snowden passed away January 15, 2019 at his home in Stonington.  He was born November 30, 1963 in Brunswick, ME, the son of John E. Snowden and the late Sylvia A. (Barter) Snowden of Deer Isle.

Mike moved with his family to Kingston, NY in 1965, where he lived and attended school until moving to Tulsa, OK in the late ‘70s. He spent many summer vacations on Deer Isle and Isle au Haut visiting his large extended family.

He lived in New York, Oklahoma, Virginia and Georgia, prior to moving back to Deer Isle in 2006.  Mike fished with several lobstermen, did carpentry, painting, and other jobs.

Mike was a very generous person to his family and friends, and always so thoughtful about the gift that he gave to you. He especially loved when his family and friends brought their young children to the house so he could tease them and then spoil them with candy or little gifts.

Mike enjoyed watching football and was an avid NASCAR fan. He spent many hours playing dominos, cribbage, scrabble and other online games.  He loved pets and animals of all kinds and enjoyed walking in the woods and photographing the birds and wildlife.

Mike is survived by his father, John E. and stepmother, Catherine M. Snowden, of Deer Isle; his brother, John “Peter” E. Snowden Jr, of Dahlonega, GA; his sister, Cynthia S. Royal, of Warrenton, VA; nieces and nephews, Jessica Sweeney (Stephen); Jamie Long (Zack); Austin Royal all of VA; Lisa Snowden and husband Allen Parker; and John E. Snowden III of OK.  He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his mother, Mike was predeceased by his grandparents; Maurice E. and Helen (Smith) Barter, and Jason G. Snowden and Edith (Pickering) Snowden Marshall; and several cousins.   A memorial service will be held in the early summer.  Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Memorial Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 387, Deer Isle, Maine, 04627.
