Ellsworth – Clement Allyn Alden Storer died March 6, 2019 in Ellsworth, Maine. He was born in Topsham, Maine on September 18, 1939, the son of Alden and Alice (Colby) Rowe. He legally changed his name in 1966.
He was educated in the schools of Topsham and Brunswick and graduated from the University of Maine in 1960. He continued his study of history, literature and speech, first at Northwestern University (MA 1961) and Michigan State (PhD 1970).
Most of his teaching career was spent at Queens College, CUNY. After moving to Maine in 1977, he taught part-time at a number of colleges, as well as offering workshops in watercolor painting.
In 1966, he married Louise Kennison whom he had met when both were new faculty members at St. John’s University (NY).
“Allyn” supported many organizations concerned with matters of human rights and environmental protection, both with money and with action. He loved reading, theatre, music and being in the natural world, especially the woods of the northeast.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters and their husbands, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could be made to the ACLU or the Environmental Defense Fund.
